Marianne Bachmeier was a West German woman who initially worked at a pub. She became infamous for shooting and killing Klaus Grabowski, a man who was on trial for the abduction, molestation, and murder of her daughter Anna Bachmeier. Anna has two other siblings whom her mother gave up for adoption. Her mother raised her all alone. But she had a fate which no one ever imagined. She was raped and brutally murdered when she only seven years old by Klaus Grabowski.

Who is Marianne Bachmeier?

Marianne was the mother of Anna. Even though she was living with Anna she was not the only child of her, she had given her other two kids. In 1966, at 16, she gave birth to her first child whom she gave up for adoption. In 1972, she startede dating the manager of Tipasa Pub where she worked. At 22, she gave birth to Anna on 14th November 1972. She was molested shortly after the birth of her second child, whom she also gave for adpotion.
But unlike the other two kids, she raised Anna as a single parent. Since Marianne continued to work at the bar, she took Anna to work, to avoid rush home after her regular work hours. She worked all night and slept all day, leaving her daughter unmonitored.
What happened to Anna Bachmeier?
Anna was murdered. On 5th May 1980, she skipped school after arguing with her mother. Unfortunately, she was abducted by a man known as Klaus Grabowski whose house Anna visited to play with the cats. Who was Klaus Grabowski? He was a 35 year old burcher and convicted sex offender. She was previosuly jailed for sexually abyusing two other ladies. In 1976, h1e voluntarily submitted himself to chemical castration but later underwent hormonal treatment to reverse the castration.
Klaus held Anna in his home for several hours before molesting and murdering her. How did he murdered Anna? He strangled Anna to death with a pair of his fiancee’s tights. Then the prosecutor reported that Klaus tied up Anna and packed him in a box, which was left on the shore of a canal.
The murderer was turned in by his fiancée. Upon arrest, he admitted to killing Anna. He stated that Anna attempted to extort money from him by threatening to report him to her mother. The fear of going back to prison prompted the killing.
Courtroom Decision and Public Reaction

In March 1981, Mom Shoots Daughter’s Killer in Court was the news, which made headlines all over the country. On 6th March 1981, during Klaus’ third trial, Anna’s mother came with a pistol into the courtroom of Lubeck District court. She amied the gun at Klaus’ back and fired seven times, six of which got him. Marianne then lowered the gun and the police officials catched her without any resistance.
The courtroom was sparked with public debate and the reports from different parts of the country came to cover the story. Marianne sold her story for about 250,000 Deutsche Mark to Stern German Magazine and used the money to cover all the legal costs.
Marianne Bachmeier’s Sentencing
On 2nd November 1982, Marianne was charged for murder but was later dropped by the prosecution. The board also agreed on the verdict after 28 days. She was convict on 2nd March 1983, for months after the proceedings were reopen. The Circuit Court Chamber of the District Court of Lubeck convicted Marianne of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. She was sentence to six years but was released after serving half the time.
What Happened to Marianne Bachmeier?
After the release in 1985 Marianne remarried and her husband was a teacher. Three years later, the couple relocated to Lagos, Nigeria where they lived in a German camp while her husband taught at a German school. Unfortunately, both of them divorced in 1990. Then she move to Sicily where she was employe at a hospice in Palermo. While she was in Sicily, she was diagnose with pancreatic cancer and thus she return to Germany.
On 17th September 1996, she died due to pancreatic cancer at a hospital in Lubeck. She was buri in Burgtor Cemetery, Lubeck, next to her daughter Anna. The painful story of the mother and daughter came to an end with immense sorrow and pain.
